Charles B. Colison

Charles Colison is an Assistant Professor of Nutrition at Baltimore International College (BIC).

He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from University of Baltimore. He completed his dietetic traineeship at Baltimore County Memorial Hospital with affiliations at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Union Memorial Hospital. Colison is a Registered Dietitian (Commission on Dietetic Registration), a Licensed Dietitian (Maryland Board of Dietetic Practice), and a Certified ServSafe Instructor (NRA Solutions).

Professor Colison previously taught courses in dietetics, food service administration, management, and food safety at Anne Arundel Community College, Baltimore City Community College, Carroll Community College, Hood College, and Howard Community College.

Before joining the faculty at BIC, Professor Colison held positions in clinical and administrative dietetics at Baltimore County General Hospital, Service America Corporation/Carroll County General Hospital, and the State of Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. He recently retired from the U.S. Army Reserve where he provided direct client nutrition services and managed nutrition care activities in both active-duty and reserve military hospitals.

Raymond Paul Davis

Raymond Paul Davis has been an Academic Instructor at Baltimore International College for over ten years. Professor Davis currently teaches English Composition, English Composition and Literature, Developmental Reading, and Developmental English. He has also taught other courses in his decade-long teaching career for BIC and other colleges in the Baltimore area.

Professor Davis earned his bachelor's degree at Towson University in Towson, Maryland. He also holds a master's equivalency from Baltimore County Public Schools where he taught for thirty years. He has worked in adult job career search services and computer-aided skills and development centers. Professor Davis has also developed, evaluated and implemented curriculum and materials for many schools.

Outside the classroom, Professor Davis enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and gardening.

James Henry Dunne

Dr. James Dunne is an online instructor at Baltimore International College, teaching Strategic Planning, Human Resources and Current Issues in Hospitality. He is also a Chairperson and Assistant Professor at New York Institute of Technology.

Dr. Dunne earned his Associate in Applied Science from Nassau Community College, a bachelor's from Hofstra University, his master's from NYU, and his Juris Doctor from Touro Law Center.

In addition to teaching at BIC, he is the founder and President of VinoU - Service Dynamics, which offers training for restaurant and hotel employees. Dr. Dunne is also founder and President of Dynamic Writing Services, an editing, drafting and content service for professional documents.

Dr. Dunne has over 15 years' experience in hospitality operations and hospitality training and education. Before managing or teaching, he had worked in the culinary and hospitality industries as a pantry chef, coffee shop supervisor and front desk clerk, among others. Dunne has also taught hospitality operations and management at universities and colleges such as University of Nevada Las Vegas, NYU, and the NY Restaurant School, and has worked with the Ladyfingers Catering, the NY Marriott Marquis, and Pridwin Hotel on Shelter Island, New York.

He has also had a book published, Service Dynamics — Profitable Hospitality for the New Millenium (Kendall/Hunt Publishing Company, 2000), as well as many professional articles. Dr. Dunne is also extensively featured as an expert regarding wine, beer, spirits and restaurant service on television, radio and in print.

Arthur S. Drea

Arthur Drea is an Assistant Professor of Business Law at Baltimore International College.

Professor Drea earned bachelors' degrees in history and economics from St. Joseph's College in Indiana, and his Juris Doctorate in Law from the University of Baltimore in Baltimore, Maryland. He was admitted to the Maryland and District of Columbia bars, and the Federal Trial Bar of the U.S. District Court of Maryland. Drea is also licensed to practice law before all levels of Federal and Maryland State Courts.

Professor Drea has extensive professional experience. He worked with Maryland's Department of Business and Economic Development for 10 years, managing economic development-financing programs, and as the principal counsel through the Attorney General's office.

Professor Drea served for more than ten years as a lobbyist, both in private and public sectors, concerning legislative issues such as labor, financial powers, capital, and operating budget appropriations among others. He has served as the principal legislative representative before Congress and federal agencies for the largest economic development trade association in the country, and was previously a member of the Maryland House of Delegates. Drea was also an attorney for local government specializing in land use planning and environmental regulation.

Before joining the BIC faculty, Professor Drea was an Adjunct Professor at Anne Arundel Community College in Maryland, teaching Business Law I and II, small business management, finance, business communications, and other business courses.

John C. Galloway

John "Chip" Galloway is an Academic Instructor at Baltimore International College.

He teaches a variety of courses, including Computer Applications, Technology Strategies in Business Systems, Food Service Facility Design, Management, Consumer Behavior, Hospitality Sales and Marketing, and others. Professor Galloway is also a member of the University of Baltimore faculty where he teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has been a member of the UB adjunct faculty since 1980.

Galloway earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and an MBA at the University of South Carolina.

Previously, Galloway was the Director of Engineered Products for Fusion UV Systems. He has also been a part of the management teams at both CM Kemp and General Electric. He has also had several textbooks published throughout the years. In 2010, Atomic Dog Publishing will re-release his books "Strategic Marketing Planning" and "Computer Based Marketing Exercises," while Prentice Hall will publish "Retail Exercises."

An active member in his community, Galloway, an Eagle Scout, is a Boy Scout Troop Scoutmaster, Boy Scout District Fundraising Chairman, and District Club and Boy Scout Leader Trainer. Additionally, he is a Sunday school teacher and a robotics mentor at Centennial High School.

Edwin Hetfield

Edwin Hetfield is an Academic Professor of English at Baltimore International College. He specializes in writing and rhetoric, critical theory, 18th, 19th, and 20th century (British, French, and American) novel, technical writing and cultural anthropology.

Dr. Hetfield earned his A.B. in Comparative Literature with a minor in English from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, and his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature with a minor in English from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Dr. Hetfield has published as a scholar, professional writer and photojournalist through his post-doctoral career. His articles have appeared in Photographer's Forum Annual (Hachette Publishers, NY), Today's Photographer International, Lincoln News National, The Library of Congress Information Bulletin (Vol. 57, No. 5), and Montgomery College's magazine, Juncture Vol.1, No. 1 ("Abstract: Semiotics, Anti-Oedipal History, and the Mind's Fate"). In addition, Dr. Hetfield presented a paper entitled Nihilists and Idealists in the Novels of Dostoevski at the International Conference on Fyodor Dostoevski hosted by Hofstra University, NY.

Before joining BIC's faculty, Dr. Hetfield taught at Prince George's Community College. He has also taught at Montgomery College, SUNY College of Technology at Utica/Rome, Le Moyne College, Syracuse University, Onondaga Community College, SUNY College at Oswego, and SUNY College at Buffalo.

Bruce R. Knauff

Bruce Knauff is an Assistant Professor of English at Baltimore International College.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from Western Maryland College, and his master's in English from the University of Maryland, College Park. Professor Knauff has also completed 21 credits in Business Administration at Towson University, and received a Certificate of Advanced Study in Liberal Arts from Johns Hopkins University.
Before joining the BIC faculty, Professor Knauff taught English at the Community College of Baltimore County in Essex, and at Northwestern High School in Baltimore. He was also the Director of care and academic programs at Hyman Blumberg Child Day Care Center and Kindergarten. Knauff has also worked in customer service and sales for the H.M. Rowe Company, Elsevier Science, J.B. Hunt Transport and La-Z-Boy Furniture.

Professor Knauff has been associated with the Baltimore Publishers Association, where he served as President, as well as Vice President and Director of Membership.

Outside of the classroom, Professor Knauff is a manager and coach for the Loch Raven Recreational Council Baseball League.

Zev Lavon

Dr. Zev Lavon teaches Information Technology, Strategic Planning and Facilities Management as an instructor at Baltimore International College. His educational passions include recognizing, nourishing and enabling others in maximizing their potential.

He has earned a bachelor's in Economics and Political Science, an MBA focusing on Organizational Change and Meta Policy in International Relationships, and a Ph.D. from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, with a focus on Hospitality Industry and Tourism Development.

Dr. Lavon's experience before coming to BIC includes developing the Aruba Hospitality Trades Training Center, as well as his own hotel management system company, Lavon Systems, where he was CEO. He has also worked for Cornell University as both the MIS Director for the Division of Facilities and Business Operations, and Assistant Manager of the School of Hotel Administration. He also draws upon his extensive experience in information technology, including Director of Software Development for Arbitron and Director of Enterprise Solution Architecture for CareFirst.

Sheila Lucas

Sheila Lucas is an Adjunct Professor of English at Baltimore International College, where she teaches English Composition, Developmental Reading, and various other reading courses.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Speech Correction with a minor in English at the D.C. Teacher's College, and earned her Master of Science in Educational Administration at Trinity University in Washington, D.C. Currently, Professor Lucas is a doctoral candidate in the urban educational leadership program at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Prior to working at BIC, Professor Lucas taught English and reading at the secondary level for 31 years. She worked in both private and public schools in the Washington, D.C. metro area.

Professor Lucas was listed in the Who's Who Among Teachers in 1996, 2002 and 2004, as well as The Chancellor's List in 2005. She is also a member of the National Council of Teachers of English, and won the Medal of Excellence in Teaching in 2002.

Sylvester E. McKay

Sylvester McKay currently teaches introduction to psychology and information technology as a Professor of Psychology at Baltimore International College.

He is a three-time graduate of North Carolina State University where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees, and Ph.D. in Psychology. His dissertation topic focused on the psychosocial development of learning disabled community college students. He was also taught at Wilson Technical Community College, Guilford Technical Community College and Washington State University. He completed a post doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Prior to coming to BIC, Dr. McKay was the President of College of the Albemarle and Baltimore City Community College. He has also been the Vice President of Curriculum and Instructional Technology at Guilford Technical Community College and Director of Research for the North Carolina Community College System. He has also worked as a school psychologist in both rural and urban school districts.

He has taught psychology, statistics, and research methods at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His research interests include distance learning, instructional technology, and organizational culture.

Laurence F. Orendorff

Laurence Orendorff is an Assistant Professor Organizational Behavior and International Business at Baltimore International College.

Professor Orendorff earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mount St. Mary's College, a master's degree in education from Towson State University, and a master's degree in psychology. He is also a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.

Before joining BIC's faculty, Professor Orendorff worked for the Board of Education of Baltimore County, Maryland. He has taught science and driver education at Kenwood High School, and chaired the driver education program at Towson Senior High and Parkville Senior High. He was part of the guidance department at Sparrows Point Middle and Senior High School, and chaired the guidance department at Randallstown High School and Eastern Technical High School. Orendorff was also a counselor, recruiter, and a night school coordinator of the Dundalk Community College.

Outside the academic realm, Professor Orendoff worked as a field representative, counselor, supervisor, and area director for the Baltimore County Summer Jobs Program, and as a sales representative for Texas Instruments Corporation.

Professor Orendorff is affiliated with many organizations, including the Baltimore County Association for Counseling and Development, American Counseling Association, Phi Delta Kappa, National Board for Certified Counselors, and is a life member of Chi Sigma Iota.

Maria Petrovici

Maria Petrovici is an Associate Professor at Baltimore International College, where she teaches Managerial Economics, Small Business Management, Macro and Micro Economics, Accounting, Finance and Financial Management.

Professor Petrovici earned her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Civil Engineering in Bucharest, Romania. She graduated from the business program at Millersville University, and earned her MBA from York College, both located in Pennsylvania. Currently, Professor Petrovici is working toward her Ph.D. in business administration with a specialization in international business from Northcentral University in Prescott, Arizona.

In addition to instructing at BIC, Professor Petrovici teaches at Johns Hopkins University and Penn State University. At Johns Hopkins, she teaches management and small business management, and at Penn State she teaches principles of economics.

Before joining the BIC faculty, Petrovici was an instructor of economics at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster, PA. She also held positions at Burle Industry, the Department of Agriculture in Bucharest, Romania, and Base Technology and Equipment Company, also located in Bucharest, Romania.

Professor Petrovici is chair of the BIC Faculty Development Committee, and part of an academic committee wherein Petrovici designed two new courses for BIC business management students. She is the faculty advisor for SIFE — Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow, and was Chair of the Business: Back to Basics conference for the Society for the Advancement of Management. In 2000, Petrovici was awarded the Educational Institute AH & MA Instructor Diploma in recognition for her contributions to the advancement and support of education in the hospitality industry. Additionally, she was awarded the Society for the Advancement of Management Award from Millersville University, and the Susquehanna-Pfaltzgraff Foundation Scholarship, both in 1997.

Morris Pondfield

Morris Pondfield is an Assistant Professor at Baltimore International College, where he teaches Food and Beverage Cost Control, Human Resources Management and Strategic Management.

He earned a Master of Science in Technology Management from University of Maryland University College, and a MBA in international management from the American Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, Arizona.
In addition to educating BIC students, Professor Pondfield lectures students at Towson University, Stevenson University's Graduate School, University of Maryland University College, and Johns Hopkins University's School of Professional Studies in Business and Education. He is also currently president of a local Baltimore consulting firm specializing in the commercialization of emerging technologies.

Recent presentations Professor Pondfield has given were Uses of Intelligent Agents and Personalization Software in eCRM, Avatars, Agents and Personalization: Uses of Intelligent Software and E-Tools of the Future.

Dr. Abdul Shyllon

Dr. Abdul Shyllon is a Professor in the Master of Science of International Hospitality Management program and an Academic Professor of Business at Baltimore International College.

Dr. Shyllon attended Lincoln State University in Jefferson City, Missouri, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business, a master's degree in political science, and an MBA in management. He later earned his Ph.D. in management from California Coast University.

In addition to teaching at Baltimore International College, Dr. Shyllon is also CEO of Shyllon Company, a private accounting services and management advisory firm, as well as an IRS-enrolled agent.

Previously, he was a professor and chair of the accounting department at Strayer University in Loudoun, Virginia, where he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting, business, economics, management and taxation. Dr. Shyllon was also an instructor of accounting and business at Lincoln University where he taught undergraduate courses in business, marketing, economics and more.

Dr. Shyllon is currently a member of the National Associate of Enrolled Agents, the National Association of Accountants, and the American Accounting Association. He is also a member of the Capitol City Masonic Lodge No. 9 and a member of the Omega Psi Psi fraternity, Eta Alpha chapter.

Peggie Smith

Peggie Smith is an Academic Assistant Professor at Baltimore International College. Her area of expertise is in Mathematics.

Dr. Smith earned her Bachelor of Science in Math Education from Hampton University in Virginia. At George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, she earned her master's in education specializing in administration and supervision of mathematics, and her Doctor of Philosophy in Education specializing in mathematics. Dr. Smith also holds an Advanced Professional Certificate with Secondary School Principal, Mathematics Teacher, and Instructional Supervisor endorsements.

Before joining the faculty of BIC, Dr. Smith worked as an assistant professor at Bowie State University where she coordinated the Developmental Math Program and Math Teacher Education Program, and taught various mathematics courses. She has also taught at Lord Baltimore Middle School, the University of D.C., Falls Church High School, and Mark Twain Intermediate School. Dr. Smith also instructed at her alma mater, Hampton University, as the Upward Bound Mathematics teacher.

Dr. Smith is professionally affiliated with many organizations, including the National Council of Teacher of Mathematics, Mathematical Association of America, American Statistical Association, National Education Association, Humanistic Mathematics Network of Poets, and others.

Throughout her career, Dr. Smith has received many accolades. She was selected as a Holmes Scholar, a program that enriches the scholarly experience and professional training of men and women of color who are underrepresented in leadership positions in universities and professional development schools. Dr. Smith was also selected by the Board of Advisors of Outstanding Americans as one of the Most Outstanding Young Women in America in 1987. In 2000, the Mathematical Association of America honored Dr. Smith as a long-standing member committed to personal excellence and professionalism. She was selected by the People to People Ambassadors Program as one of the Top 25 Mathematics Educators in America to serve as a delegate to China at the invitation of the Minister of Education and Beijing University.

MaryLynn Swartz

MaryLynn Swartz is an Academic Instructor at Baltimore International College. Professor Swartz teaches Introduction to Computers, and Developmental Reading.

Professor Swartz earned her Bachelor of Science and master's degree in education from Towson University. She also holds a State of Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate in Education for first grade through eighth grade, and is a Certified Reading Specialist.

Before joining BIC in 2004, Professor Swartz taught in the Baltimore City Public School system. She has participated in Technology Leaders presentations, and has been published in Towson University's Graduate Journal, "Issues in Education."

Professor Swartz is an active member of the International Reading Association (IRA). Outside of the classroom, Professor Swartz enjoys spending time with her family and gardening.

Marshall U. Thompson

Marshall Thompson is an Assistant Professor and General Education Coordinator of Mathematics at Baltimore International College.

Professor Thompson earned his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Coppin State Teacher's College in Baltimore and his Master of Arts in Education from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Before joining the BIC faculty, Professor Thompson was an adjunct reading instructor at Anne Arundel Community College. He has also worked with the University of Maryland's School of Social Work, the Maryland Department of Human Resources, the Woodland Job Corps, Essex Community College, and Howard Community College. Professor Thompson also taught at the Patuxent Institute, the Baltimore City Department of Education, and the U.S. Army Reserves Training Academy.

Beyond the academic realm, Professor Thompson has also worked as a computer technician, supervisory social specialist, and a systems analyst for various Baltimore-area companies.

Georgia Willis

Georgia Willis is the Director of Student Counseling at Baltimore International College, where she teaches, counsels and advises students, as well as intervenes in students' academic problems and makes accommodations for students with disabilities.

She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. Ms. Willis is also a National Certified Counselor, and recently completed her post-master's certificate in organizational counseling at Johns Hopkins University.

Before coming to BIC, Ms. Willis worked with traditional and nontraditional students in high schools and college, as well as disabled adults in both private and public organizations.
