Graduate Admissions Procedures and Requirements

Prior to enrolling, all incoming master's degree candidates at Baltimore International College (BIC) need to submit the Graduate Application for Admission along with a non-refundable $50 application fee.

Master's degree candidates must have previously earned a bachelor's degree in Hospitality/Hotel Management or Business, or a bachelor's degree in any other field from any accredited college, with at least a 3.0 GPA. Candidates without the fundamental courses maybe required to complete credits in accounting, finance, economics, statistics, human resource management, marketing, and information systems before undertaking the courses in the graduate program (please refer to Bridge Semester).

Candidates must have also accrued one year of full-time experience in a management or administrative capacity in a service industry, or equivalent experience. This requirement may be waived by the Dean of the Graduate School pending a review of academic history, overall work experience, and letters of recommendation.

Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of computer systems, word processing, and spreadsheets (waiver available), as well as the ability to read, write and speak English. Students whose first language is not English must achieve a minimum score of 550 on the written version of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or score at least an 80 on the computer version.

An interview conducted with the Dean of Graduate Studies is also required. The interview may be conducted face-to-face, through a conference call, or online.

Conditional Acceptance

If the candidate does not meet all the admissions requirements (i.e. a 3.0 GPA), the candidate may be granted conditional acceptance into the master's degree program for one semester. The candidate must successfully complete all courses required, with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and the approval of the Dean of Graduate Studies. The student will not qualify for financial aid during this time. Charges will follow the prevailing graduate tuition and fees schedule.

Bridge Semester

Candidates who do not meet core course requirements for admission into the program may be required to take a "Bridge Semester," or a semester of preparatory coursework before they can begin taking master-level courses. Students will be charged at the prevailing undergraduate tuition and fees schedule, and may qualify for federal financial aid.

Waivers

The Dean of Graduate Studies may waive the requirement of one year's experience pending a review of academic history, overall work experience, and letters of professional recommendation.

Demonstrated computer competency will be confirmed with a sealed college transcript, identifying successful completion of computer course(s) with a grade of at least a B, or by taking BIC's challenge exam.
